The
Beverly Bandits Midget 1 went to Paris from April 1st to 3rd and came home
winners of the very difficult
2016 Syl Apps Memorial Tournament.
Congratulations – an incredible end to an impressive season!
On Friday evening the Bandits played the Brock Wild and defeated them 3-1 in the first preliminary game. Next up were the Midland Centennials on Saturday afternoon who defeated the Bandits 3-2, which put pressure on the Beverly team to win the next game with the New Hamburg Huskies2 in order to move on into the quarter
Finals. The Huskies played the Bandits very hard and had a 1-0 lead going into the 3rd period but the Bandits scored 2 in the 3rd period to win 2-1 and send the team into the quarter finals.
The quarter final game featured the Bandits playing the Midland Centennials again, but this time Beverly defeated Midland 2-0 with Callum Williams putting in both Beverly goals and Matt Watson earning the shutout.
The Bandits played the Dresden Jr. Kings in the semi-finals and beat them 3-1 with Curtis Abernethy playing a very strong game in goal and the rest of the team shutting down the powerful Jr. Kings.
The final was played vs the Thornton Tigers and the Bandits blanketed the Tigers all game winning the championship 2-1. Both goals were scored by the Bandits unassisted by Callum Williams and the winner by Stefan Mielzynski both in the first period.
The Bandits went 5 wins and 1 loss in the tournament and used terrific goal-tending, stellar defence, and outstanding play-making in the offensive zone to win the tournament.

Coaches are: Peter Mielzynski, Ron Knight, Derrick Leeson, Charlie Pratt and Cameron Watson.
